20th December Partners Club Night - The Club's usual pre-Christmas Party and Buffet was complimented by another of John's excellent buffets
Partners Evening 1st November: Despite the cold, there was a good turn out to see the club's annual fire works display (01.11.06).
Partner's Evening 4th October: 5 Budding Colin McRae's lined up for the OctoberFest rally challenge. With Michael "Pipe" Edwards leading the field off on Stage 1, showing the boys how it was done. Soon to follow was Mark Davies, showing that he doesn't need an engine in his car to play a video game. Richard was soon up showing why he's reshelling his trusty Mk2, managing to roll the car on the very first stage.... Worse was to come when he ploughed straight into the innocent crowd at the next junction. Next up was Kevin Fowler, challenging Mark quickly for the lead. But for a coming together with a wall, it could have been a different result - 2nd on the first stage was the best he could manage. Last, and proving not least, was Rob, finishing just ahead of "Pipe" despite tipping the second hand Focus on it's side. Stage 2 continued in a similar vein, but Kevin showed the boys how it's done, setting a storming 3.38.52. This was almost 14 seconds quicker than Mark, and was almost 2 years quicker than Richard who was again struggling to get used to the power of the Playstation 2. Stage 3 showed Mark back onto the pace, taking the stage by a couple of seconds. However, here the battle for 3rd place was decided in favour of "Pipe". Rob's showboating to the crowd, showing how to comprehensively roll the car on a series of yumps, cost him dearly, almost taking long enough for another pint. Stage 4, and we had serious concerns when Richard rolled the car comprehensively off the side of a cliff. However, it was only pride that was damaged, the game recovering the car quickly. Kevin again showed his metal, taking 4 seconds from a defeated Mark. Rob tried to claw back some of the time he'd lost to Pipe, but it was no good.
Final Results: 5th - Richard "Gets out enough" Edwards, 4th - Rob "Stop showboating to the crowd" Brook, 3rd - Michael "Pipe" Edwards, 2nd - Mark "Must get out more" Davies and 1st - Kevin "Really must get out more" Fowler.
Unfortunately the evening was seriously marred when Gordon "I've never played this before in my life" Phillips took the challenge on. There would have been a serious new contender, but not at this time... Complete chaos then reigned when someone was last seen drifting the Focus WRC continuously around a roundabout, shredding hundreds of pounds of tyres. Aren't video games great!!! (04.10.06)
Partners Evening 6th September: With the England football match reducing the evening's attendance, Andrew Stacey and Peter Nathan took the decision to postpone the planned quiz to a later date (06.09.06).
Paul Brown's London Fire Brigade Charity Auction on the 23rd August was cancelled sue to lack of support. The auction, in aid of the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre was for eight people to spend the afternoon with White Watch at Wembley on 16th September. Paul hopes to make other arrangements for the auction outside of the club so if you do want to bid then contact him by email (03.09.06).
Partner's Evening 2nd August: For one night only, MCAC decamped from Gerrards Cross and moved up the road to Croxley Green in Rickmansworth to take part in the 5th running of 'Classics on the Green' organised by Watford & District Classic car Club. With the majority of Club Night regulars making the journey we also had a number of members cars on display. The only thing missing was John Price and his bar! Thanks go to Peter Nathan who organised the stand (02.08.06).
Partners Evening 5th July. Disappointingly (for some), only three teams entered Andy Greenland's 'Foot Scatter' around the grounds of the Club. The event was won by Malc, Rose and Jo Farmer on a tie-break. Thanks go to Andy for his efforts (05.07.06).
Partners Evening 'Off Road Driving' 7th June: was the task using Kevin Dawson's excellent remote controlled vehicle. With rain causing the cancellation of last year's event, we were all relieved when early evening rain failed to take hold. Richard Edward's son Mike won the event with a clear round and a time of 2 mins, 46 seconds. Second was Mark, also with a clear round, but a time of 3 mins 34 seconds. Tom Lambert managed to roll the car whilst Tom Ryan suffered control problems with the car (strangely, the only person to suffer badly!). There were twelve entrants but only Mike and Mark achieved clear rounds. Thanks to K&K for the organisation and supply of equipment (07.06.06).
Pool Competition 24th May. Andy Greenland won the 'Singles' event while Andy and Martin Lush took the 'Doubles' challenge.
Partners Evening 3rd May: Pete Farmer's 'Indoor Bowls' evening was postponed due to a lack of able bodied persons.(03.05.06)
Plymouth-Banjul Challenge. Clare Samuel was on hand with photos and a video to recount her adventures on this event with brother David. Pete Cook metamorphosed into Andy Greenland to explain some of the preparation work that was involved in turning a 1990 Belgium diesel Ford Escort, complete with MOT failure certificate, into a vehicle capable of completing the event. Watch out for a future magazine article accompanied by photos on the website. (19.04.06)
Partners Evening 'Chocolate Extravaganza' 5th April was a quiz based around chocolate and organised by Rob Brook. Chris Keys was the man with most knowledge about this subject. (05.04.06)
David Sutton Rally Car Museum. A number of Club members paid a visit to Daventry on a cold Saturday morning and discovered some remarkable machinery. Even better, you can lift the bonnets, sit inside (but not necessarily get back out) and general paw all over them. See some photos here. Thanks go to Pete Farmer who came across the museum on his travels and Pete Nathan who organised the visit. (08.03.06)
Partner's Evening 'General Knowledge Quiz' 1st March was officially won by the team consisting of Tony & Val and Gordon & Marie Phillips (some related!) after a tie break. However, websites being what they are, we can completely ignore the official results and claim victory for the Bar Team consisting of Pete Farmer, Paul Brown, myself and John Price on the basis that we were originally awarded an extra half point (so what if the answer was completely wrong!). Thanks go to Pete Nathan for organising what was a very good quiz. (01.03.06)
Partner's Evening 'PlayStation 9' 1st February. Andrew Stacey provided the computer wizardry for this entertainment. Results will appear here shortly (01.02.06).
The Club's Annual Dinner-Dance and Presentation of Awards took place on Saturday 28th January 2006 at Stockley Park Golf Club. Photos and details of award winners available on the Awards 2006 page. Thanks go to Graham Samuel who was Master of Ceremonies and Peter Nathan who organised the evening. Nice steps and even better flower beds! (28.01.06).
Partner's Evening 'Mystery Music Quiz' 4th January: The New Year started with Peter Nathan and Rob Brook presenting their music quiz which actually had nothing to do with music what-so-ever! Instead teams of four competed in a MENSA type brain teaser - the winning team consisted of Val and Tony Phillips, Tom Ryan and Graham Samuel. Have a cream egg! (04.01.06)
