CLUB NEWS 2007

(ARCHIVE)

Rob Brook has now sent over the Championship Tables as at 30th November (13.12.07).

Mike Hurst asks that all trophies be returned to him on or preferably before the Christmas Buffet (see below) on the 19th December. Are You Due a Trophy This Year?:  Magazine Editor Pete Farmer tells me that the January/February issue will be distributed well in time for January's Annual Dinner & Dance.  The deadline for articles is December 31st so if you are due an award but have not yet contributed it's time to pick up a pen!   Talking of Dinner Dances, Pete Nathan is now actively selling tickets for this fine event.  Pete and Sarah put a lot of effort into organising our annual bash and the results show.  Well worth it! (06.12.07)

19th December is our annual Christmas Party and Buffet.  Another excellent buffet from John as we celebrate our usual Christmas get together.  Once again, the Club is subsidising the evening so the cost is only £3 each.  Bookings to Tony Phillips as soon as you can please (06.11.07).

Well, it had to happen.  The Oct/Nov/Dec issue of The Middlesex Magazine is now available for download with the hardcopy arriving through your letterbox shortly.  A distinct lack of articles combined with a need to publish before the Tempest has meant that we will only have five issues in 2007.  The problem has been growing for a number of years now with the incumbent editor frequently reporting difficulties in getting articles to publish.  Not sure what the problem is but are we seeing the start of the magazine moving to a quarterly format?  Perhaps the loss of Oakington has reduced the number of active members writing articles, or perhaps the departure of certain regular contributors from our locality has just proved too much!  Let's hope not (05.11.07)

Message from the Chairman: Don’t forget that now is the time of year when you need to start polishing up the trophies and return them, so that they can be engraved ready for next year’s recipients to collect at the Annual Dinner. If you are able, please bring them to a Club Night before Christmas and pass them to either Tony or Mike Hurst. If you cannot get to the Club, please contact Mike (07774 672110) to arrange an alternative method.  Tony Phillips (26.10.07)

Just as we put the last issue of The Middlesex Magazine to bed, Editor Pete Farmer says he is desperate for articles for the 'October' issue to ensure that we maintain six issues this year.  If not then it will only be five with last one being Oct/Nov/Dec and the last chance to qualify for trophies.  In recent years, it has become more and more of a struggle to get enough articles to make the magazine feasible but it is now in danger of becoming just a newsletter! (08.10.07).

Long time coming!  Everyone will have their paper copy of the Magazine by now so it's a bit academic, but the online edition of the July/August/September edition of The Middlesex Magazine has at long last been uploaded.  Apologies for the delays but work commitments (some would say a rarity) are affecting both Pete and myself - that was also the reason behind the three month issue! (05.10.07).

The Club sends it's warmest congratulations to Rodger and Joy Maxwell who tied the knot in Norwich earlier today.  We all wish them a long and happy life together (29.09.07).

My Apologies for the lack of updates during this last week.  Recent events at work have dictated that my laptop accompanies me wherever I go so it was only natural that it would come with me to the New Forest for a short break.  However, for some reason at the last minute, I decided to take my old Compaq laptop rather than the usual Dell.  That turned out to be a good decision as while spilling wine over the keyboard might help with the cooling, it didn't seem to have the same effect on character selection.  Thereafter, I was not able to enter my password and I really did have a few days off.  Malc Farmer (070919).

Christine Poxon advises us that, in October, she is helping out at a Christian Aid Book sale and would like to receive donations of Books, CDs, DVDs, Videos and Computer games.  Donations can be taken to the club or delivered to Christine at Heronsgate.  Alternatively, contact Pete Farmer who will liaise as necessary (05.09.07).

Magazine Editor Pete Farmer apologises for the ongoing delay with the magazine which is due to pressures of work (22.08.07)

Championship Secretary Rob Brook has sent through updated points tables and these are now on the website (10.08.07).

The May/June issue of The Middlesex Magazine is now available from the Club Mag page - see side bar  (20.06.07).

At the recent meeting, the final positions of the Council were agreed and so congratulations go to Darren Pike who takes on the role of Chief Marshal and Karen Stripe who takes over as Regalia Officer. As many of you will know, Karen is not locally based so any Regalia requirements can be made to any Council member who will pass on the information.  Thanks also go to Rob Brook who will be continuing as Championship Secretary, albeit in a non Council position (19.06.07).

Due to ongoing commitments elsewhere, Paul Brown has resigned from the Club's Council of Management.  Our thanks go to Paul for his contribution over the last few years.  Any member wishing to purchase Regalia should contact any member of the Council who will make the necessary arrangements (13.06.07)

Apologies to Brakefast Autotest fans - pictures have at last been uploaded (they were lost under the pile on my desk for the last month or so!) (04.06.07)

Pete Farmer (busy man!) is organising a small team to give Donna a clean up and carry out an inventory of club equipment on Thursday 31st May around 10.00am.  Anyone who is available to help should contact Pete by email on petef@mcac.co.uk (28.05.07)

Pete Farmer reports that the current issue of The Middlesex Magazine has only received two articles for inclusion so far.  Obviously, if anyone is thinking of writing an article then now would be an ideal time to do so! (24.05.07).

At last nights first Council meeting since the AGM, Tony Phillips was unanimously voted in as Chairman of the Club.  Congratulations go to Tony and our thanks go to Kathleen Dawson, who had decided not to stand for re-election.  Kathleen didn't manage to escape completely as she was then voted into the newly vacated Vice Chairman's position.  Unfortunately, although some other Council positions were agreed, the meeting was held whilst another event was taking place at the club house and further discussions were abandoned until a later date.    As a result, some positions on the Contacts page have not been updated and are subject to change.  Should you have any problems, contact any member of the Council who will be more than willing to help or, at least, will point you in the right direction.  Watch this space! (09.05.07).

The MCAC Annual General Meeting took place on Wednesday 25th April 2007.  Our thanks go to Rob Brook and Andrew Stacey who having moved up north (separately, I might add!!) have decided not to stand for re-election to the Council of Management.

Review of K 37: The MSA website has a press notice and a PDF file with the latest version of the proposed text of K 37. So far, it would appear that the majority of the (few) comments they have had refer to tyre widths and weights. Anyone involved in competition should look at the proposals and let the MSA have comments. It would also be helpful if they could copy them to Kathleen Dawson as chairman of LCAMC, to ensure that the Association reflects the views of competitors, not just those who attend Association meetings (08.03.07).

"OUT OF CONTROL" GETS ITV4 SLOT: Satellite TV's "Out of Control" is to get a try-out on ITV4 over the next two weeks, in the slot normally reserved for World Rally Championship (WRC) events.  The two-hour programmes will be shown at 18.00 on Sunday 25 February and Sunday 4 March, in the break between Rally Norway and Rally Mexico, as ITV seek to establish if the programme can match or even beat the viewing figures already established by the WRC. The programme will also have a slightly different title, "Out of Control - The Rally Show", as the producers, Acceleration Television, continue to steer the series away from it's simple accident and incident format and more into a straightforward, action-packed magazine show, full of club and international rallying from around the world. The two new special shows will be featuring action from F1000, the British Rally Championship, the Barbados Rally Carnival, the Roger Albert Clark Rally, The Lombard Revival Rally, plus a couple of the world's top ten rally cars and small inserts showing youngsters how to start rallying, and a feature on safety from Custom Cages. Unfortunately the programme content will not be new as the go-ahead from ITV4 only came a couple of weeks ago.  With no timer to produce anything new these two trial programs will be a compilation of greatest hits and most popular features.  That's still great news for rallies like the Malcolm Wilson, the Roger Albert Clark and others, as they will have the chance to be seen by an audience unmatched by any other programme (24.02.07).

Chelmsford Motor Club Quiz Thursday 15th Feb 2007: Jim Bowie is organising a team quiz at New Regiment Way Golf Centre, Little Waltham, Chelmsford.  Invitations have gone out to various clubs for a relatively informal first time running of the event and the format will be  50 or 60 questions with probably 10 rounds of 5 questions.  Only Half will be motor sport/motoring related. Jokers on 2 rounds so NON motoring family members can double points in TWO non motoring rounds if they wish.  Teams of Four - intended to help visiting clubs to come in one car OR enter a Team from one family. Start 8.45 finish with a picture round whilst getting a drink. There is a forum running on www.chelmsfordmc.co.uk. If you have never been on our forums you may need to ask the administrator for a login password - tell him its to do with the quiz. I'd be pleased for you to post your team name and attendance on the website to encourage other teams. Contact Jim Bowie by email on jimbowie555@yahoo.com (24.01.07).

2006 Championship:  For information, revised final Championship tables have now been uploaded.  Apparently there was an error on the Overall Positions page (07.01.15).

MSA Rally Marshals Training: These sessions are being run under the Volunteers In Motorsport auspices during 2007.  For more information on the MSA scheme please visit http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/contentViewArticle.asp?article=2385. Details pertaining to the sessions available at each Training Day can be found on the Volunteers In Motorsport website by following the "Rallying" link and selecting "Training Days" under "Useful Links". Currently the nearest Training Days to ourselves are :-

1, at NW Kent College, Gravesend, on Saturday 17th February (www.brmc.org.uk/gravesend2007.htm for online applications)

2, at Cambridge College on Sunday 18th March (www.brmc.org.uk/cambridge2007.htm for online applications)

3, at Silverstone on Saturday 17th March (www.brmc.org.uk/silverstone2007.htm for online applications)

4, at Lackham College, Chippenham, on Sunday 18th March (www.brmc.org.uk/chippenham2007.htm for online applications)

As always this training is provided free of charge by MSA Marshals Instructors, the only costs to attendees being their fuel, plus either the college refectory or local café prices for breakfast and lunch, if people don't wish to take their your own sandwiches, etc.  As you will no doubt be aware for any marshal wishing to volunteer for the Rally Wales GB in 2007 there is an MSA/Event requirement that they are part of their National Marshals Register, which the Introduction To Rally Marshalling course can provide the necessary training to support their application. Similarly for existing MSA registered marshals there is an ongoing requirement for them to attend a Marshals Training Day, particularly if they wish to upgrade. Again the other Rally Marshals courses provide the necessary training.  If you have any queries regarding this MSA Training the please don't hesitate to contact either Allan Dean-Lewis at the MSA, the ACSMC Marshals Training Officer Alan Spratt, Richard Nunn (support@volunteersinmotorsport.co.uk, or Derek Machin. National Training Officer (2006). British Rally Marshals Club. Phone/Fax - 01625 869720. Email - training@brmc.org.uk. www.brmc.org.uk (27.11.06).
