CLUB NEWS 2006

January Awards Evening: A final reminder that any member wishing to qualify for award has to submit an article for the magazine before the end of the year.  The article must be in Pete Farmer's possession by midnight on the 31st December so he has decided to forego his normal New Years Eve festivities and instead he will be sitting in front of his computer until the midnight hour has passed to ensure late submissions are not missed (26.12.06).

MSA Rally Marshals Training: These sessions are being run under the Volunteers In Motorsport auspices during 2007.  For more information on the MSA scheme please visit http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/contentViewArticle.asp?article=2385. Details pertaining to the sessions available at each Training Day can be found on the Volunteers In Motorsport website by following the "Rallying" link and selecting "Training Days" under "Useful Links".

Currently the nearest Training Days to ourselves are :-

1, at NW Kent College, Gravesend, on Saturday 17th February (www.brmc.org.uk/gravesend2007.htm for online applications)

2, at Cambridge College on Sunday 18th March (www.brmc.org.uk/cambridge2007.htm for online applications)

3, at Silverstone on Saturday 17th March (www.brmc.org.uk/silverstone2007.htm for online applications)

4, at Lackham College, Chippenham, on Sunday 18th March (www.brmc.org.uk/chippenham2007.htm for online applications)

As always this training is provided free of charge by MSA Marshals Instructors, the only costs to attendees being their fuel, plus either the college refectory or local café prices for breakfast and lunch, if people don't wish to take their your own sandwiches, etc.  As you will no doubt be aware for any marshal wishing to volunteer for the Rally Wales GB in 2007 there is an MSA/Event requirement that they are part of their National Marshals Register, which the Introduction To Rally Marshalling course can provide the necessary training to support their application. Similarly for existing MSA registered marshals there is an ongoing requirement for them to attend a Marshals Training Day, particularly if they wish to upgrade. Again the other Rally Marshals courses provide the necessary training.  If you have any queries regarding this MSA Training the please don't hesitate to contact either Allan Dean-Lewis at the MSA, the ACSMC Marshals Training Officer Alan Spratt, Richard Nunn (support@volunteersinmotorsport.co.uk), or Derek Machin. National Training Officer (2006). British Rally Marshals Club. Phone/Fax - 01625 869720. Email - training@brmc.org.uk. www.brmc.org.uk (27.11.06).

Martin Eades and Chris Welch, aka Lion Motorsport, are building a rally car from scratch.  Follow their exploits on their webpage in the Gallery as they build a Peugeot 205 GTI Rally Car to a standard capable of winning the 2007 BTRDA B10 Forest Rally Championship (15.11.06).

The November/December issue of The Middlesex Magazine is now available from the Club Mag page - see side bar (15.11.06).

Allegedly, some motor club and motorsport `chat rooms` are being monitored by various parties (police, local councils, insurance companies, MOD etc).  There is a concern that if anything untoward (speed, dangerous driving, noise, confrontations with non motorsport public etc) is posted in these unregulated chat rooms, motorsport could be seen in a bad light .  If that happens then we could see an adverse reaction such as loss of venues, road events being made more difficult to run, insurance premiums rising or no cover available! It has been suggested that any such chat rooms should be voluntarily closed to minimise any such possibility.

The O.U.M.F 'Racing Engines' Lecture by Geoff Goddard - 7pm - Thursday 2nd November: Geoff Goddard is a legendary engineer in motor racing, with countless Formula One, Indianapolis, and Le Mans race winning engines to his credit. He was one of the original lynch pins of Cosworth Engineering, and has also worked with many of the biggest and best Teams on the Grand Prix circuit over his long and distinguished career - which provides him with a huge fund of interesting and hilarious stories, and insights into top flight motor sport. Be assured, there is no need to be a race engine spod to enjoy his very entertaining talks! He is in great demand as a public speaker, and we are extremely lucky to have him as an enthusiastic supporter of OUMF, and to have him share his wealth of experience with us on Thursday.  LOCATION: It will be in DEM06 lecture theatre at the Gypsy Lane campus of Oxford Brookes. To find it, enter the Gibbs Building and locate the corridor nearest the London Road. DEM06 is to be found at the end of this corridor. Unfortunately the capacity of the lecture theatre is only 100, so do let me know if you or any of your members would like to go. Ding Boston dingboston@oxfordstuntfactory.com.

Co Driver Request from Paul Hunt: I am the co driver for Steve Hall who runs a tarmac spec Fiesta. We compete in the local clubman's rallies and usually finish well inside the top 20. Unfortunately I am currently injured with a prolapsed disc in my back and will be unable to compete for many months. Steve is looking for a co driver for some events next year and who would be willing to share some of the costs. If anyone is interested please contact Steve on 0208-319 0893.

www.RallyingUK.com  We have been informed of a new site for buying and selling  that is run by enthusiasts from Bournemouth & District .  Read their Press Release for further information or just visit the site. (26.10.06).

Is There Life after Rallying?  Unfortunately this article came in just too late for the July/August magazine so we have been sitting on it for a while.  Many of you will know that Tom and Agi Ryan have decamped to Croatia.  It's a long way from High Wycombe but perhaps this will help explain.  Then there are the views.....  I think we can safely say that the answer to Tom's question is an unreserved 'yes'  (05.09.06).

The September/October issue of The Middlesex Magazine is now available from the Club Mag page - see side bar (05.09.06).

Following the recent passing of Vice Presidents Rosemary Williams and Don Caisey, Adrian L'Estrange has kindly written obituaries and these can be read by clicking on the links.  The obituaries will also be printed in the September/October issue of The Middlesex Magazine (04.09.06).

The deadline for articles to reach Magazine Editor Pete Farmer is next Wednesday, 30th August.  The September/October issue of the magazine should be then be published the following week (24.08.06).

Don Caisey: We are sad to announce that Don Caisey passed away on Friday 11th August.  Don, a Vice-President, died peacefully in his sleep after a long illness.   The funeral will be next Monday 21st August @ Cheltenham Crematorium, Bouncers Lane, Cheltenham, GL52 5JT @ 13.00 and afterwards @ Dumbleton Cricket Club, Dairy Lane, Dumbleton, Worcs.  Our thoughts are with his wife Sue and daughter Sarah (14.08.06).

www.worldseriesbyrenault.com Karen Stripe has bought this site to our attention which is offering free tickets (max 4 per person) for the World Series dates at Nurburgring (this weekend 5/6th Aug), Donington (9/10 Sept), Le Mans (30 Sept/1 Oct) or Barcelona (Oct 28/29th). Easy as filling in your details! (04.08.06).

Rosemary Williams: John has advised that Rosemary's funeral service will be held (with private burial later) at 2.30 pm on Tuesday 8th August at St Leonard's Parish Church, Pyrton Lane, Cuxham Road, Watlington and afterwards at White Mark Farm.  John states that all are welcome and has requested no formal attire.  Also no flowers, but donations, if desired, payable to Diabetes UK should be forwarded c/o A. B. Walker & Son Ltd., Blyth House, 158 Reading Road, Henley-on-Thames, Oxon. RG9 1EA (01.08.06).

Players No6 Autocross 40th  Anniversary Re-union Dinner: We have received a circular regarding this anniversary dinner.  Bit before my time I'm afraid but if anyone was involved in competing, organising or marshalling, etc, the organisers would like to hear from you.  Click the link to get more details (240706).

Rosemary Williams: It is with great regret that I have to report the sudden death of Rosemary Williams, one of our Vice-Presidents. She died peacefully in her sleep and was found by John early on Saturday morning (22nd July).  A full obituary will appear in the September/October magazine (Tony Phillips : 23.07.06).

The July/August issue of The Middlesex Magazine is now available from our Club Mag page - see side bar (19.07.06).

A message from Tony Phillips:  Val extends many thanks to the Council and friends at MCAC for their concern, kind wishes and herb planter sent to her following her recent operation. We are both hoping now for positive news and a full recovery (18.07.06).

Another message from Tony Phillips:  Somehow, I seem to have volunteered to take on the role of Club Historian/Archivist to collate all the activities and paperwork for the Club. As you all know, Adrian has been very busy over the last year (and still is!) collating the first Centenary of the Club history and putting this into a book. He would still like to receive any information that is available concerning any activities involving members during the last 100 years. Adrian has experienced some difficulty in piecing together some of the Club’s history because of the lack of information or the problems of collating the information after finding where the details are! In view of this, we felt it would be a good idea to collate all the current activities as we go and keep them together for future reference. Therefore, if you have organised an event, taken part in an event, had any correspondence on behalf of the Club, got a mention in the press or, in fact, anything involving the club or any of the members, over the last 18 months or so please let me have a copy for the records. Of course, this is an on-going situation, so please also let me have any relevant information and/or press cuttings in the future as well (18.07.06).

Donna finally cleans up her act:  Pete Farmer, Andrew Stacey, Brian Catt, John Wilson and Kirstin Farmer assembled at High Wycombe to give Donna a much needed clean up in time for the Uxbridge Autoshow.  A couple of bottles of Cilit Bang (as recommended by Peter Nathan), some Fairy liquid, a couple of nail brushes, some cleaning cloth and a heck of a lot of elbow grease has wiped off many years of grime and left us with a nice shiny trailer.  Well done all (18.07.06).

News has come in of the passing of John McKerrell.  John was a member of Hampton & District MC for many years and a championship sponsor.  Our thoughts are with John's family and friends at this sad time.  Peter Keel's obituary of this remarkable man has now been uploaded.  It has also been published in the July/August issue of The Middlesex Magazine (10.07.06).

New Championship Secretary Rob Brook is going for broke.  He has sent me two sets of updated Championship Tables in the same day!!  Rumour has it that he is also planning to declare an amnesty on all events from 13.2.06 so if anyone wishes to claim, they will have 2 weeks after the publication of the next club magazine to update him with any claims. Of course, that's all unofficial at this stage! (10.07.06).

With the deadline for the July/August issue of The Middlesex Magazine now past, it is disappointing to note that Pete Farmer has not received any articles for publication (04.07.06).

Charity Auction in aid of the  Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre: London's Burning? Fancy an afternoon with White Watch at Wembley? Kathleen Dawson and Paul Brown are trying to formulate a plan to hold an auction for eight places to spend the afternoon with White Watch at Wembley. The afternoon will consist of getting everyone into uniforms followed by an afternoon of various demonstrations from simple hose laying (including a race between the participants) to the equipment carried by the Fire Rescue Unit including the cutting gear and method used for lifting a car off a person.  Hopefully there should be a spot of grub followed by a further demonstration of hose laying up the tower and fighting fire whilst carrying the Breathing apparatus. Finally, there will be hopefully be a practical demonstration in the use of fire extinguishers and then issuing a certificate of attendance.  Date scheduled is 16th September so the weather should be cooler. Obviously, anyone wishing to bid should bear in mind that they will need to be fit due to some of the more strenuous activities.  Bids can be made prior to the auction night (auction proposed for Club Night 23rd August) either by phone, text or email to Paul Brown, Andy Stacey or Pete Nathan.  More details soon (04.07.06).

GP Masters Silverstone 12th/13th August: Standard weekend tickets cost £60 adults, £30 children but we can get a 10% discount on this.  Contact Rob Brook for further details

The May/June issue of The Middlesex Magazine is now available from our Club Mag page - see side bar.  This is Pete Farmer's first issue as Editor.   Congratulations go to him not only for his appointment but for getting the magazine out in considerably less time than would normally be available (22.05.06).

British International Motorshow: 20th-30th July at ExCeL, London. The organisers promise a spectacular summer celebration of cars and motoring.  Better still, MCAC members can get three tickets for the price of two.  Phone the box office on 0870-890 0508 and quote MCA to obtain this discount. (13.05.06)

The Club's AGM took place on Wednesday 27th April 2006 at  Gerrards Cross Sports Club.  Our thanks go to Andrew Stacey, who has resigned as Competition Secretary due to his business commitments, and Chris Keys, John Roseblade and Martin Lush who have decided not to stand for re-election to the Council of Management.  Congratulations go to Peter Nathan who has been elected as our new Competition Secretary, and returnee Pete Cook and Andrew Stacey who have been elected to the Council.

We have recently received news from Gus Morison that his partner, Kirstin Morrissey succumbed to a metastatic adenocarcenoma and liver failure on Monday 13th February at the age of 51.  Gus tells us that the speed at which the malignancy developed precluded any active treatment - she was still riding her horses less than four weeks before.  Kirstin's funeral will be at Shrewsbury Crematorium, London Road, Shrewsbury, SY2 6PS on Monday 27th February at 2.00pm with a reception afterwards at The Lord Hill Hotel, Shrewsbury, SY2 6AX. All are welcome but no flowers please.  Donations instead can be made to Riding for Disabled Perry Group, and/or Cancer Research UK.  Our thoughts are with Gus and Kirstin's family at this difficult time.

The new Junior Championship Rules 2006 are now available.  These will, of course, be accessible from the Points page.

Championship Secretary Kevin Dawson would like to remind everyone that, from this championship year, we will no longer be automatically submitting claims for points.  You must submit your own claims for each and every event.  With this in mind he would  also like to reminds members that claims for the Rockingham Stages event in December, will continue to be accepted until the end of February.

It is with sadness that we have to report the death of club member Brian Curd.  Brian, who was Tom Lambert's well respected mechanic, passed away on January 31st.  Our condolences to his family.

www.petrolprices.com: Search over 10,000 UK Petrol Stations to find the lowest fuel prices in your area.

Brian Catt reports that the the need for new marshals and organisers is getting  ever stronger.  At Council level, new blood is needed to replace several people who are feeling the strain of managing ever increasing levels of pressure at work, with their work for the Club suffering as a result.  Some, being "retired" persons, are able to devote more hours than most but young blood is definitely needed in Council to help keep MCAC at the forefront in the motor club stakes. Talk to Kathleen Dawson on kathleend@mcac.co.uk

Brian also reports on the RallyStar proposals fronted by Russell Brookes, (ignored by Motorsport News) which sets out proposals for introducing newcomers into stage rallying with limited power cars.   At MCAC are offering a date (not fixed yet, probably 2007) to run possibly the first of the series of events at Oakington.  We, as a host Club, are hoping to allocate current competing members to mentor and  assist the entrants on their first foray into the sport.  More news later.

The Club's Annual Dinner Dance and Awards Evening is rapidly approaching.  This is at Stockley Park Golf Course on Saturday 28th January.  Please contact Peter Nathan on 07979 814654 or petern@mcac.co.uk  for reservations.

Similarly for existing MSA registered marshals there is an ongoing requirement for them to attend a Marshals Training Day, particularly if they wish to upgrade. Again the other courses provide the necessary training. If you have any queries regarding this MSA Training the please don't hesitate to contact either Allan Dean-Lewis at the MSA, ACSMC Regional Association Training Officer, Mike Farnworth or British Rally Marshals Club National Training Officer (2006) Derek Machin who supplied this information.  Derek can be contacted on phone/fax - 01625 869720 or email training@brmc.org.uk
