Rockingham Stages 2007 8th/9th December. Steve Simpson/Simon Hunter have won this years Rockingham Stages in their Hyundai WRC with a time of 1hr 25m 44s.  Simon Mauger/Brian cammack were second in a Ford Focus WRC 02 with a time of 1hr 27m 31s and Dave West/Keith Hounslow were third in a Peugeot 306 Maxi kit Car with a time of 1hr 28m 02s.  Full results here shortly but checkout the event website for full details.

 

Wales Rally GB 30th Nov-2nd Dec: Mikko Hirvonen takes victory in this years rally with Marcus Gronholm, in his final WRC event, second (15.2 secs) and Sebastien Loeb third (1.33.0 secs).  Third place secured Sebastien’s fourth consecutive World Rally Championship crown. Rally Ireland 16th-18th November 2007: Sebastien Loeb has won the inaugural Rally Ireland and has opened up a 6 point lead over Marcus Gronholm  after his retirement on stage 4.  Dani Sordo was second (+53.4 secs) and Jari-Matti Latvala was third (+54.8 secs).

South of England Tempest Rally 10th November 2007Our multi venue forestry stage rally jointly organised with Sutton & Cheam and Farnborough was split into two rallies this year with Stephen Richards/Ian Withecombe winning the 2WD rally in their Ford Escort and Will Nicholls/Nick Broom winning the 4WD event in their Subaru Impreza WRC. Rally of Japan 26th-28th October.   Miko Hirvonen has taken victory from Daniel Sordo ((.00.37.400 secs) and Henning Solberg (04.33.700 secs). Championship leader Marcus Gronholm crashed out on Friday whilst World Champion Sebastien Loeb retired on the penultimate stage after crashing on Saturday. 

 

14th October: Norwich Union MSA Classic.  MCAC's club members were out running the Millbrook Proving Ground on this years event which has been reintroduced after a change of sponsorship and a short break.

 

Rally of France 12th-14th October.   World champion Sebastien Loeb has won his home event to reduce the gap between himself and championship leader Marcus Gronholm in second place (+00.23.700) to just four points.  Daniel Sordo was third (00.44.300).

 

Rally of Catalunya 5th-7th October.  Sebastien Loeb (3hrs  07mins 06.2secs) has taken victory in Spain to reduce Marcus Gronholm's championship lead to six points.  Dani Sordo (3.07.20.0) was second and Gronholm (3.07.50.4) third.

 

Colin McRae 1968 - 2007: We are sad to report that the helicopter crash in Lanarkshire yesterday afternoon appears to have taken the life of former World Rally Champion Colin McRae, 39, his son Johnny and family friends Graeme Duncan, 37, and Johnny’s friend Ben Porcelli, 6 (16.09.07).

 

Marcus Gronholm has announced that he will retire at the end of the season (15.09.07).

 

Rally of New Zealand - 31st Aug-2nd Sept. Marcus Gronholm has taken victory from Sebastian Loeb by 0.3 seconds with Mikko Hirvonen third (1.40.8 secs).

 

Rally of Germany - 17th-9th Aug: Sebastian Loeb has taken victory on this years event with Francois Duval second (20.3 secs) and Mikko Hirvonen third (1.19.1 secs).  Marcus Gronholm was set to take second position but went off on the last stage and eventually finished fourth (1.36.5 secs). 

 

MCAC Foto-Jenic Fun Run & BBQ Sunday 12th August. Provisional results give victory to Adrian L'Estrange/Andy Greenland.   Well done to Rob for the organisation and make sure you charge your laptop next time out!

 

Harrow Foto Frolic 5th August:  The event was won by MCAC's Rob Brook and Andy Greenland.  More info as soon as received.

 

Rally of Finland - 3rd-5th Aug.  Marcus Gronholm has won this years event with Mikko Hirvonen  second and Sebastian Loeb third.  

 

Classics on the Green, Croxley Green 1st August. For the second year running, Club Night relocated for the evening.  Peter Nathan organised the MCAC stand which was accompanied by the karts, complete with garage and able mechanic Paul,  of Steven and Robert Jeeves.  There was a tremendous array of motor cars on display and, in the absence of any downpours this year, only the darkness brought procedures to an end. 

 

Uxbridge Autoshow 15th July.  MCAC had a stand with a number of cars on display at the show.  Hopefully we have some photos shortly.

 

Hants & Berks navigational challenge, The Tracker, run on Sunday 8th July, was won by Pete Farmer and Andy Greenland.  More information to follow.

 

Rally of Greece, June 1st-3rd:  Marcus Gronholm has taken victory over Sebastian Loeb by 38.6 seconds with  Petter Solberg a distant third.  

 

Rally of Italy - May 18th-20th. With World Champion Sebastian Loeb making a rear mistake and crashing out of the event, Marcus Gronholm took victory by 29.2 seconds over Mikko Hirvonen with Daniel Sordo third (1.21.8). 

 

Rally of Argentina - 4th-6th May.  Sebastian Loeb took a dominant victory with a margin of 36.7 seconds over Marcus Gronholm with Mikko Hirvonen third (2.15.2).  With the teams needing to be flown some 400 miles after the first SuperSpecial and the start of stage 2, some teams were left stranded at the airport after bad weather cancelled flights.  As a result seven of the nine stages on day one were cancelled. 

 

May-Be 12 Car 27th April.  Provisional results shown that our May 12-Car in April was won by Tony Phillips and Tony Brooks.  Full results now available. Thanks to Rob Brooks and his team for the evening's activities.

 

Rally of Portugal - 30th Mar-1st Apr.  In a repeat of the Mexico podium, Sebastian Loeb came first with Marcus Gronholm second (0.37.1) and Mikko Hirvonen third (2.08.1). 

 

Brakefast Autotest 25th March  The new AutoSOLO part of the Brakefast Autotests at Bovingdon ended with competitors saying “When is the next one?”  The format of all forwards open tests without the need to use the handbrake went down well with the 20 entries.  Results here but full report by following the main link.

 

This years Barrett's Rally of Kent, due to have taken place on 18th March was cancelled due to lack of entries (07.03.07).

 

Rally of Mexico 9th-11th March:   Sebastian Loeb has taken the spoils in this year's event with Marcus Gronholm second (0.55.8) and Mikko Hirvonen third (1.27.7). 

 

Longcross: We have received notification from Barry Guess of the cancellation of the 2007 Chieftain and Scorpion Sprints at Longcross following the decision of QinetiQ Management to withdraw the venue from ALL motor sport use.  This decision was confirmed this afternoon at a meeting between Barry (as MSA Liaison Officer), Ian Davis (MSA) and the appropriate management at QinetiQ Farnborough. The withdrawal is also effective immediately for all remaining motor club bookings for rallies (Craven MC/Sutton & Cheam MC/Rally Britannia/Bexley LCC/Oxford MC) and Sprint bookings (London Irish MC). This situation is subject to an on-going discussion although it should be noted that QinetiQ have stressed that they are unlikely to reverse their decision.  Any queries or communications regarding this matter should be directed, in the first instance, to Barry (26.02.07).

 

Plymouth - Banjul Challenge: Team 'Old Gits', Graham Samuel and Alan Williams arrived home on Tuesday having have successfully completed the journey to Banjul in their 1989 Nissan Sunny.  More information from the event website under Group 4/Car number 7421 (24.02.07). 

 

Rally of Norway 16th-18th Feb:   Mikko Hirvonen has taken victory by 9.5 seconds over team-mate Marcus Gronholm with Henning Solberg third (3.44.6).   

 

Valentine Scatter 17th/18th February: Nat West's Ian Young /Rob Searby won this years event in their Renault Laguna with Simon Phillips/Rob Brook second and Andy Collett/Roger Jack third.  Full results now available and thanks go to Andy Greenland for the organisation.

 

Rally of Sweden - 9th-11th Feb:  Marcus Gronholm has won this years event with Sebastian Loeb second  (53.8sec),  and Mikko Hirvonen third (1:41.5). 

 

Wyedean Forest Stages 10th February.  Sadly, we have to report the death of a competitor on this years event after an accident that occurred on the third stage.  More details are on www.wyedeanrally.co.uk.  Our thoughts are with his family and friends. 

 

Hants & Berks MC 50th Pairs ‘Point to Point’ 28th January 2007: The MCAC team of Andy Greenland/Rob Brook and Ann Kolter/John Brook have won this years Point to Point organised by Hants and Berks MC. Results now available.  Congratulations to the team and we look forward to receiving a full report on the day's events. Oh, and Paul Brown made a blatant attempt to better last year's shortcut along the white and decided to take John Wilson up the 'exit' slip for the A3 - quickly attracting the attention of Her Majesty's finest! Saturday 27th January Annual Dinner-Dance and Presentation of Awards  On Saturday, we returned to Stockley Park Golf Club for our premier social event of the year.  Thanks go to Master of Ceremonies Tony Phillips, Christine Poxon for presenting the awards and Peter and Sarah Nathan who again organised the evening.

 

2007 Dakar Rally 6th-21st January: Stephane Peterhansel has taken victory in this event with defending champion Luc Alphand second (+7.26) is second and Jean-Louis Schlesser third (+1.33.57).  Checkout the event webpage for the full results.

 

Monte Carlo Rally-19th-21st Jan. Sebastian Loeb maintained his advantage to take victory in this years Monte (3hrs 10mins 27.4secs) with Citroen team-mate Dani Sordo second (3hrs 11mins 5.6secs) and Ford's Marcus Gronholm third (3hrs 11mins 50.2secs).

As always this training is provided free of charge by MSA Marshals Instructors, the only costs to attendees being their fuel, plus either the college refectory or local café prices for breakfast and lunch, if people don't wish to take their your own sandwiches, etc.  As you will no doubt be aware for any marshal wishing to volunteer for the Rally Wales GB in 2007 there is an MSA/Event requirement that they are part of their National Marshals Register, which the Introduction To Rally Marshalling course can provide the necessary training to support their application. Similarly for existing MSA registered marshals there is an ongoing requirement for them to attend a Marshals Training Day, particularly if they wish to upgrade.
