Brakefast Autotest 6th April 2008.

After nearly being cancelled due to the unexpected snow fall, 27 competitors, split over 3 different events, took part in the 2008 Brakefast on Sunday 6th April. In the National ‘B’ autotest, Roger Dudley    took Fastest Time of the Day (FTD) in his Mini Scamp, with Brian Bridge - last years winner – in second place, and Gavin Lane third. The Production Car Autotest only had 3 competitors, but a close battle throughout the day finally saw Andrew Dudley beating Derek Looker for TFD, with Laura Dudley (Andrew’s daughter), in third.

A bumper entry of 17 cars competed on the AutoSolo, with very close competition all day. At the half way point, Chris Keys led by only 4 seconds in his ‘eBay special’ 205, with newcomer Stuart Osborn tying for 2nd place with Jon Senior and the next five drivers covered by only 5 seconds! At the finish, Chris Keys had managed to keep his lead, but Rob Brook had moved up to 2nd in his 205 rally car with John Roseblade taking 3rd in his 306 GTI6. The longer afternoon tests did not suite John Senior’s rather tired 205 and he dropped back to 4th, while Stuart Osborn slipped to 5th, but at least both had the consolation of winning their respective classes.  Results now available. with photos to follow shortly.

Brakefast Autotest 25th March 2007

The new AutoSOLO part of the Brakefast Autotests at Bovingdon ended with competitors saying “When is the next one?”  The format of all forwards open tests without the need to use the handbrake went down well with the 20 entries.  To show that it was not all power and right foot FTD went to novice driver David Manning in a 1275 mini with the rally set up 205GTi of Chris Keys (Best MCAC) next just beating the Impreza of Paul Trimmer by 0.2ecs and only another 0.6secs behind was Rob Brook’s roadcar, the Skoda Fabia vRS. It was a real good mixture of driving ability and cars for the 3 runs at the 4 tests. Mistakes could be made as the worst time on each test was dropped.  Martin Lush and Martin Moane thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the rallying MK 2 Escort until the flywheel decided it didn’t want to play and sheared the attaching bolts.  In the National B autotests part Peter Cox was 3rd overall in the ABS Freestyle whilst Rob Rolston had electric fuel pump problems with his mini which didn’t get sorted out till the afternoon.  Overall winner was Brian Bridge in a 1100 Mini.  It truly was a day for minis! Results here.  Photos from Harrow MC.

Brakefast Autotest 26th March 2006 (Results).

At a windy, and thankfully not till late in the day wet, Bovingdon airfield 35 entrants enjoyed the 6 tests run twice.  FTD for the Nat B went to the Nova special of Mike Biss who had close competition from MCAC’s Rob Rolston in his Mini saloon until a wrong slot on the last pair of tests left him in second place overall.  In the PCA event where passengers helped the more novice drivers get round the tests MCAC’s Rob Brook, ably assisted by Chris Keys took FTD in his Peugeot 205 rally car on only his second outing on a tarmac event. Run in conjunction with Harrow CC,  thanks to Peter Cox and Peter Noad for the organisation.
