An HE steers between the spectators in July 1922 at the Shelsley Walsh hill climb esses. Herbert Engineering built these cars in Reading between 1920 and 1931.

Changing the coach horses outside the Crown Inn in Amersham High Street makes for a tight squeeze between the Thorneycroft bus, car and replacement horses.

The six-cylinder Norma, which hailed from the USA, were built between 1919 and 1923 using Continental engines.

This milestone is at the junction of the Aylesbury road and the A40 just west of High Wycombe.  The car is a 1927 Lea-Francis fitted with a Cross & Ellis body. 

Madeira Drive, Brighton.  This event is the RAC Rally.

Guy Warbarton thunders up Shelsley Walsh in a 3 litre Sunbeam. 

This Riley is competing in an event called the Beggers Roost Gold Award - a typical 'between the wars' club trial when a carefree atmosphere prevailed.

Ken Hutchinson's Bugatti at Donington Park in March 1933 - complete with mechanic.  He was later to marry Kitty Brunell - daughter of the photographer.

Two Rileys parked in Porlock village, Somerset - faced with climbing the famous hill.  Even then there was an easier toll road alternative.

Finally, here is a picture of W J (Bill Brunell's daughter, Kitty Brunell.  The picture was taken in October 1929 as she prepares her Talbot14/45 for the Monte Carlo Rally.  MCAC member Kitty went on to win the RAC in 1933 driving an AC Ace.  Closer inspection of the picture will show what appears to be an MCAC badge mounted on the front of the car.
